I am building a 502 pump gas engine .This will be a 6000-6400 rpm bracket engine SFT cam 610 lift 252-256 108 lobe centers 3400 lb. car c-6 8" convertor victor intake .I have been calling for 7-8 months no p51s .The man in Winder suggested scjs No idea whenever p51s will be available He also said P51s would be his pick but none available .My 466 goes 6.76 on a cool day looking for 6.50-6.40 with 10.50 compression ratio .My 466 has 11.00 -11.50 compression .Got to make racing less expensive .I have AFRs on the 460 .Arent they some issues with the scj valve geometry ?I did a search but no answers.Doug

SCJ's get a little tricky on the intake valve train side with tall retainer heights and Valve lifts over .750" but. otherwise they are great cylinder heads.
With just over .610" valve lift, you will see no issues anywhere.
I have made over 740 horsepower with un-ported SCJ's on a 10.5/1 compression ratio, flat tappet, 470" engine with one 4 barrel ... over 15 years ago.

Very impressive horsepower for 10.5:1 Compression and a flat tappet cam at 470 cubic inches!!

Thanks
Well it seems the scjs are alright .I am using comp rockers in 1.70 ratio I want to swap to a set of 1.80 rockers as well as I can remember after lash the lift will be in the 640 range .That shouldn't be to much additional lift to cause a problem .I have a nice forged steel crank in 4.150 stroke and scats h beam rods I have been waiting over a year for heads I think it is time to pull the trigger .Doug

I have SCJ's on 521 , work great To be honest on that setup I don't know that there'd be a lot in it SCJ vs P-51

Parts availability is not going to get better any time soon.

Parts
I haven't asked why p51s aren't available but my feelings are if I don't get the scjs there wont be anything available .Our country has become way to dependent on others .Next week I intend to get the ball rolling on the scjs .Thanks for the comments .Doug

In this case, it has nothing to do with other countries. It has to do with the problems at a certain foundry that used to supply almost everyone's castings. Now everyone is converging on another casting house and the backlog is incredible....along with the fact that they have to start from scratch on every part.
As corporations get more involved I think you are going to see far more offshore castings, because one corporation screwed the pooch and screwed it up for everyone.
