Big Hp looking at 1200hp And up, on conv head 460 based block
Im a racer in a local Outlaw 10.5 (Real Street) N/A class.Im a true Blue Ford Man,Have been racing over 25Years.Also Bracket raced most of that time.Have raced nothing buy fords from Mustangs to Altreds all with ford Power.I currently run a 440inch C3 head windsor makes 900 on Kuntz's dyno.but just cant compete against 632bbc in our class making upwards of 1200hp,Im the only small block left in class and im looking to build conv headed 600in or bigger 460based block.Looking at different heads considered Conventional Headed.Has anyone worked with Boss 9 head? i have seen some work with a 598 on pump gas making 950hp just wondering if anyone has wicked them up maybe 640in and 15to1 comp with c25 racing fuel? Any Info Would Be Appreciated,Thanks Spencer.

Just what exactly to they consider "conventional"? If the A heads were allowed, you could get close with a tunnel ram and single 4 with a lot of C/R and big cam, but I doubt you would see 1200hp. What heads are being used on the bbc that are considered "conventional" and making 1200HP?

Cool! You're in the right place to find out... I'm sure some of the big guys will help you out here.
That being said, are reproduction Hemi heads (like Kaase's) considered conventional? If so, that could be your best bet because I highly doubt an A-head or above is considered conventional. Hope you're ready to spend some $$$ though

Re: Big Hp looking at 1200hp And up, on conv head 460 based block
if you can run a c head you wouldnt have a problem hitting 1200 plus at 640 in my opinion

Re: Big Hp looking at 1200hp And up, on conv head 460 based block
Have you heard of any port or flow work being done on Boss 9? Need something in 500 on intake.Ive heard of a new BBC head being worked on in Arkadelphia that flows 520 and still concidered conventional head.Joint venture between To head guys and Edelbrock.this also may be on one of the cars in our class 2010 season,Those heads should make some serious power.

don't give a crap if he does or not cuz if it takes 520 cfm to make it in the Class well that shoots the TFS A460 head way out of the water... the A heads around here are conservative maybe around 460cfm or so

Sorry for taking so long to get back. The A 460 Heads were brought up last Real Street Meeting And Were Not Allowed,Also The GV2 Headed Windsor Motor I Have Flows 440 on intake.Thats On Kuntz's Flow Bench.Makes Over 900hp But still not enough weight difference to overcome the BBC.And being the only SB in class its hard to get the big blocks to add weight (Rule Change) Thats why im trying to get as much info on the BBF,I have Raced a 572BBF in my altred

Re: Big Hp looking at 1200hp And up, on conv head 460 based block
im guessing the guys throwing out the big numbers on there flow and horespower are full of it. if the a heads not allowed then you might get a set of the boss heads in there theyd flow great but not anywhere near the air those guys are telling you. if not you might be able to do alot of work to some of the scj heads or p-51s with some work they might sduprise you on a 600 inch motor with the right cam. brad

I would like to know how they can call a head that flows 520 cfm a conventional bbc head?
IDT makes an A head that flows 520 cfm , but it's a far cry from a conventional head.
Nor is a Thor or a Profiler both above 500 CFM.
I guess the bbc head design is so superior to the BBF head it's easy to get those big flow numbers out of them with out getting away from the stock lay out
Typical chevy biased rules bull sh--.
