First full pass, new engine, new car, 4.81@142
Guys,
We 've got some good news, there's another BBF Ford racer in town. Bobby Shrewsberry used to run a SBC Chevelle at Windy Hollow Dragway and decided he wanted to move up. So he bought a new 2010 American Racecars swing-arm chassis dragster from Phillip Oakley and JBM Racecars (Dragstersforsale.com). They assembled the dragster and set it up in Phillip's garage.
Bobby and I built a 559 CID engine, using a DOVE-A block, w/4 bolt main caps and ported Kaase P-51 heads. Using a lot of new parts from Lem, plus a few used parts that we had gathered, the engine made 942 Hp @ 6,600 rpm and 777 Tq @ 5,800 through 6,100 rpm, on VP113 gasoline.
Today is the season opening race at Windy Hollow,,,so the track may still have some left in it. However, the air is good and on Bobby's first full pass he ran a 4.81 @ 142 mph with a 1.05 sixty foot time. Congratulations to all involved in the work effort and Bobby we're all proud of you

I am sure that was an adjustment to just changing to a dragster much less going that fast. Congrats Bobby I bet there are some 4.60's in your future

WOW !
Bob sure has stepped up in the last several years. He has come a long way from the days when we raced him in his white '68 Chevelle running 8's.
Congrats to Bob !

Budget constraints Nick. He's bought thousands of dollars of new parts, and a brand new 2010 American Racecar chassis. We could have built more horsepower too, but it costs more money. At some point you just have to say "enough".

It's a dove-a block with caps, seemed to be working fine. It's also lighter.
Bobby isn't spinning it to the moon either.

Re: First full pass, new engine, new car, 4.81@142
Guys,
The block was sonic tested and had some good thick cylinder walls. It was not filled. The engine was good to go when it came off the dyno, with 942 Hp and 777 Tq.
Somehow, accidently during the installation in the new car and the wiring up process it got 70* of timing according to Bobby. It made a couple of short passes with that much timing before they caught it and set it back, however the damage was done. As we later found out, it blew the head gaskets and cracked the cylinder wall. The block is now being sleeved.
That night, after setting the timing back to 29*-30*, it ran the 4.81, 4.79, and 4.76. On the fourth pass it ran 4.77, but it was blowing a lot of water out of the overflow tank and they decided to throw in the towel.
