If it was mine, it'd have a 1050 Dom. with 2" headers.

Be careful with the stall. If your going to drive it around town keep in mind any rpm under the actual stall the converter will be slipping. That's what will heat up the trans fluid and burn up a tranny. So choose wisely. Will this be more for street or strip?

Put some more rear gear in it ... !

2" headers ... !

4,500 stall for best ET ... !

IF you intend to drive it around, (not just to and from the track), then go lower with the stall.

Randy,I completely disagree w/you. My first 472 roller motor,I went from a Portosonic w/4500 base to a Victor and I could barely tell any difference.Different combo's it might be a diff. but I would'nt say Great. The PS is not that bad of a unit imo.

Rick why do you think I worked my A$$ off to get a victory built ? cuz the Port o sonic was crap at best! The Blue thunder dominator duel plane worked almost as good as the port o sinic. I called and begged Vic Edelbrock for a couple months to concider building us a manifold, He kept saying it is gonna cost $3000 for the molds so I told him Damint go for it I will buy them and we will make a deal 60% 40%...... Well you know how that turned out........ But at least we have a few manifold choices now.... and as far as I am concerned a Port O sonic is a good Irrigation intake and nothing else....

I went to Holley, Wiend, Blue Thunder, and Edelbrock..... Hell if I could have figured a way to get the molds and have them finished I would have done them myself...... after about 6 months I got a call from edelbrocks shop forman (Schmitty) and was informed the were in full production and over 6 months behind on back orders.... Imagine that?

If your gonna spray it you might as well build it that way now rather than do it agian later. leave the 3.55 gear, 4200 - 4500 convertor (I would error on the low side w/ spray), 2 inch primary headers MINIMUM 3.5 inch collector, I would give Patrick a call at Pro Systems, we have had great results with his 1170.As everyone else has mentioned the Victor intake would help a bunch, but if your patiently awaiting the Trickflow there is no reason to spend the money twice.

Having a 3.55/1 rear gear with a 29 inch tall tire at 6,500 RPM finish line engine speed, (dictated by his camshaft), is about 150 MPH and I am pretty sure this combination will NEVER get that fast in a 1/4 mile much less the 1/8 mile strip he intends to run.
He NEEDS more gear ... nitrous or not. Unless he intends to use the "less gear ratio" as a crutch at the starting line for traction. With a Powerglide, I don't think that will be a problem.

Somewhere in the 3.89/1 range would be closer to right ... in the 1/4 mile.

WoW ... over 150 MPH in the 1/4 mile is well over 760 horsepower and faster than 9 flat with 2,900 pounds of total weight.

For a street Mustang which has trouble with tire spin - must be one "bad a$$" car ...

We have a D0VE headed 508 that goes 141 N/A with stock suspension "street car" and a 28x10.5 tire also. 760 horsepower on spray is hardly "BAD A$$", its actually pretty easy especially when it can be done N/A without too much trouble. 86 Coupes combo should make well over 650 hp N/A put some spray on top of it, and yes keep the 3.55 gear. This is my opinion take it for what its worth. Im just going off of personal experience, not years in the dyno room.

That's some funny stuff .my mustang went 6.28 with a port-o-sonic on it ...060 over stock stroke , DOVE-C headed at 3045 LBS ..went to the victor and ran 6.24..I'd say hardly worth the change?
