Re: scoop questions
Thanks David. I'll give them a call. That doesn't seem like a bad price for the vortex deal and a filter.

Re: scoop questions
Bruno, in the heads up deal i am running i have seen a pick up of.10 vs a cowl scoop with the addition of the clear lexan scoops, i have a new carb coming from a very good Carb guy, and he told me with heavy n2o combination the foward facing scoop is worth 6mph in the 1/4 he has done and still building carbs for some very fast NMRA racers, He told me the cowl hood on my car had to go and the lexan scoop needed to be added they had done test with the tall cowls and they actually pull air from the carb then the carb actually feeds from the air coming over the headers then into the carb. he said they had made some tall cowls work in class limtied deals but it was a large air pan feeding from the front of the hood that corrected the problem and much more trouble to get right.

If you just want to keep rocks out here is the solution. $5 stainless kitchen strainer. I ran this deal for several years on my first dragster. Cut the handle off, 2 bolts and a little silicone.
Now...I like that one. I could use a pair of those on the toilets! Something tells me that I would just HAVE to leave the handles on.....
OOOhhh.. I know.............. I can solder some wires on to the screen and make a nice harness and run the wires under the manifold where they go into a little black plastic box. I see trouble on the horizon. Thanks for the cool idea!

But...I think that the handles would make it legal. Wooden handles are the best. When you rev the engine...it goes "wooooden...wooooden"

Re: scoop questions
A few years ago, I installed a 4" tall K&N on the 514 because I was running at a couple of tracks that had REAL dusty pits and return road. It ran the same as with no filter. That was when it had my high-ported D2OE iron heads and a Port-O-Sonic intake. When I put the Victor intake on it, the setup would no longer fit under the teardrop bubble.richter69 wrote:runs the same with or without it, I'll take happy cyl walls for 1000................
I agree that the ring/cylinder wall condition would be better with some sort of filter.
Many years ago, an old buddy had a bird enter his scoop just as he crossed the finish line. The bird exploded on the back of the scoop and its scattered remains were lodged in both carburetors.
