oil pressure ??
Last weekend I noticed my oil pressure dropping when it was hot after a run. I figured it was just needing changed, so I put it off until today ,But when I took my Systems1 filter apart I found a little bit of metal and brass ,so it's coming out and find where that came from. I can't take a chance of kicking a rod or something? These filters are great, I'd recommend everyone with a engine they care much about to have one. I hope this saves me from really messing mine up. It's soo hard to park one when it's running good, but hopefully I'll see what the cause is before it becomes a major problem

Yup. I'd pop off a couple of rod caps for a look.

Re: oil pressure ??
How much is the pressure dropping from normal? Like Rick sounds like a dizzy gear, the shavings. But pressure would sound like a crank or rod bearing to me.
Time to get dirty.
Keep us posted Dano.

Re: oil pressure ??
I've got it out and inspecting it. From what I can see ,it looks like a broken inner intake valve spring is all that's wrong. I haven't pulled the caps ,and probably won't right now. The rods all have good end play and no flaking. I can't see any flaking on the mains either. I know it may be a little different under the caps , but everyone I've ever seen that had any bearing issues I could see where the babbet on the bearing started to roll out from under the bearings and it would take away the end play. It was down to 25 lbs. at idle hot ,but I've got the pump set at 45lbs. warm. I think I'll just change the spring and the oil and put it back together and bump the pump up about 20 lbs. and see what it acts like?I just want to run it a few more weekends, if it makes it , I'll tear it all the way down and see how it's wearing.

Re: oil pressure ??
Why would you not pull the main caps? Seems like peace of mind would require an inspection while you're there.
What did the inside of the oil pump look like?
Also, idle oil pressure is not controlled by the bypass spring. So, installing a new spring will not get your idle oil pressure back unless the old spring ws WAY broken.

Re: oil pressure ??
I was talking about replacing the valve spring Hugh. I've got an external pump. I did pull some caps and everything's fine. The only trash I found was on the head in the oil return part of it. The pan's pretty clean and gonna be spotless when I put it back on. It was very little metal I found in the filter, just trying to be cautious and not loose any parts here. I guess I was too cautious ,but I'd rather know what's going on ,then to take a chance on it.

Re: oil pressure ??
Gotcha.
Still seems strange to lose pressure like that without having something go away like the pump, bearings, or even filter or pickup.

Re: oil pressure ??
I know ,but I'm kinda wondering if the oil wasn't breaking down now? I run Alky and it hasn't been changed since the 2nd week of June? It still looked decent. It ran fine ,just was dropping pressure when it was hoy after a run. I'll have more to report after friday night hopefully...good news!!

Re: oil pressure ??
I took the screen out of the pan and found part a clip for the valve seal ,I think that's where all the metal came from. I feel pretty confident that it'll be ok now. I'll keep my fingers crossed anyway

Re: oil pressure ??
Have you done a Used Oil Analysis (UOA) on your engine before? The reason I ask is that it is a cost effective ($20) way to find out if there is any excessive engine wear or if the oil has sheared down. Here is an example, pulled off of Jon Faubion's (Richter69) Mustang. It's an easy way to see if something is going wrong.
The only reason the lead was excessive was because of the leaded fuel Jon used. You can see how well the engine is wearing, the contaminants in the fluid and how well the oil is holding up.

I got this thing fired up today and everything seems good. I'll keep my fingers crossed. It's got 65lbs at idle cold and jumps to 85lbs when I crack the throttle. Sounds good anyway, time will tell.
