harmonic balancer
I have a 1978 f150 and I did an engine swap to a 460 and either my crank snought is bent or its the harmonic balancer I'm bettin on the harmonic balancer cause the motor only has 2,000 miles on it and it just started doing this and its an orijinal harmonic balancer and it was off a car I don't know if that matters or not but I'd like to know what would be a good stock replacement for this motor

Re: harmonic balancer
So pretty much I just want to see if I can get another harmonic balancer to replase it I talked to others and I guess theres no right way to test a harmonic balancer so I'd rather just get a replasement stock balancer for now and go from there but not sure what the oe ballancer is from your other balancers

Re: harmonic balancer
The rubber between the balancer hub and the outside ring is deteriated and is slipped,or someone has tried to pull it w/wheel puller from the outside ring. Like Randy said, buy a new one.

Re: harmonic balancer
When you pull the old balancer off, check the crank snout with a dial indicator to see if it is bent. I doubt that it is bent, like you said it just started wobbling. BUT, another possibility why it is wobbling, is that your crank just broken, but lets hope that is not the case.

Re: harmonic balancer
Yeah I know I didn't have any problems with it before to be honest everything was great and now that I got about 2,000 miles on it I started noticing it through my power steering belt squeeling do to that the pulley had a wobble and it looked like the harmonic balancer was to I did get back to the guy the built the motor and we put the balancer on a tester and thers nothing wrong with the harmonic balancer so hes gonna bring over a snake calibration tool I think he said I could be wrong. So yeah its not lookin good

Re: harmonic balancer
This is where I'm at right now I had a friend of mine bring over a dial indicator and we checked the crank and it turned out good so we put the harmonic balancer on enough that it started put the dial indicator on that and it was fine but soon as it hit the 2 in a half 3 inch spacer it cocked alittle bit and thats where were off so I'm still not sure if its the crank or has something to do with the harmonic balancer and spacer I don't know I got a weird one
