HOW TO CONVERT FROM 110 OCTANE TO E85??
I knew when I built my (mostly street) 545 with 13.3 to 1 compression ratio (bad idea) that I would have to run race gas. At that time it was about $6.00 per gallon here, and figuring that I would only be driving it about 1,000 a year, I could bear the expense (just barely). Since then, the price has jumped to $8.99 per gallon - and I just can't handle that! So, I'm wondering just what's involved in converting this over to E85? I know my SV-1 1150 has to go back to Patrick at Pro Systems for conversion, but what else is involved, and what are the "down sides" to doing this, and what else do you need to know about my build? I would appreciate any, and all guidance from this learned group. Thanks in advance.

Your fuel needs to be alky safe for the e85 like your pump ,regulator, and lines.Just remember on e85 you will burn more so you don't get as far on a tank.I would say if you get 5 mpg you only may get 3 to 3 1/2 mpg.
Here is a site you can find about anything you need to know about e85 http://raceone85.com/

So will I. I 'm in the same boat, my 528 has 13 to 1 compression as well. I know the local guys running turbos love the stuff and it's very easy to find around here.

I guess I won't be converting to E85 anytime soon. I thank you all for your input, you prevented me from making a big mistake. I have to look at doing something different such as avgas, lowering the compression ratio, or ???

Wow... giving up the idea so soon makes me think you never wanted to consider it in the first place. I run E85 in my 547 13.5-1 comp ratio and it runs very well. The increase in consumption should be around 20% so if your doing 6 mpg it will be under 5 mpg.
I run an Innovative Horsepower 1050 Dommy that is a 2 circuit deal made for E85. You want to limit the aluminum parts used (no alu. fuel cell or lines). Other than that nothing else to do.
E85 burns cleaner without that HC smell, runs cooler and costs $3.20/gallon.

your application is a perfect candidate for e-85, try it youll like it............
i have a 3-circuit 1050 dommy that is working out well for racing, that said i would only use a 2-circuit deal for street. if you build your own post some questi

I guess that I worded my last response too vaguely! I meant to say that I won't be doing anytime soon due to the expense of converting over (I'm broke right now with too many projects going at the same time), plus I think I need to learn more about E85, and it's characteristics before I move forward. I might be able to get into this more during the winter (YUCK) season.
