So the cam that was in the crate 351 was a Hyd flat tappet . 491 in lift 509 ex lift. Duration @.050 in 220 ex 230 Lsa is 112. Compression is 9.0:1 compression on the for GT40 engine.
The block he has is 96 351w roller block , GT40P heads.speed pro .030 hypereutectic flat top Pistons with 4 valve reliefs. Which cam would be the best for this combo ?
Cam 1 Trick Flow Specialties TFS-51403001 - Trick Flow® Track Max® Hydraulic Roller Camshafts for Ford 5.0L
Camshaft, Hydraulic Roller, Advertised Duration 275/279, Lift .499/.510, Lobe Sep. 112, Small Ford, 5.0L, Each
Cam 2 Trick Flow Specialties TFS-51403002 - Trick Flow® Track Max® Hydraulic Roller Camshafts for Ford 5.0L
Camshaft, Hydraulic Roller, Advertised Duration 286/294, Lift .542/.563, Lobe Sep. 112, Small Ford, 5.0L, Each
The cam that came in it
is starting to sound better after all this almost if it just had a little more
lift.

The heads which came on this "B351" crate engine were the original GT-40 heads as on the 93 Cobra Mustangs but, it was said that he has the "P" versions which came on later Explorer vehicles so, it seems that without an entire inventory, (as it is not a true "B351" crate engine), it would be an impossibility to figure out what is and is not preferred.
Using the original parts list presented here ... the Trick Flow STAGE 3 hydraulic roller cam or the CompCams hydraulic roller camshaft used in the FRPP original A392 crate motor #35-522-8 would be the "off the shelf" winners.

Your correct on a 302 inch engine, but I'm with Randy on air speed, I think you will see a choke and power loss on a good cammed Windsor.
Cross section is very small on the intake and exhaust. peak flow is less than 200 cfm @ .600 and exhaust wont break 130 cfm.
Blending won't pick up much.
Blake you and Randy are correct and I too agree. That's why I was basing it off the ford crate GT40 headed build. That is why I was looking for a cheap off the shelf Hyd roller cam . I was looking for a Hyd roller cam that will work as good or better than the none available Hyd flat tappet crate engine cam and with his 96 roller cam block.

I particularly like that CompCams FRPP Crate motor cam but, you said inexpensive and I don't think it is;
probably around $285.00

Don't know where this X is going to end at but, it looks pretty affordable now.

The TFS hyd roller cams used to be the best bang for the buck, but I haven't bought one in a while.
