Re: My new 528 combo
We were thinking it would be around 80 lbs. Mine was the base model the only option it had was AC. Its funny I still have the speedo that says 95,000 sitting on my shelf lol. I want to lose a bunch of weight but don't want it to look tacky either. When I figured before that it weighed 3550 the way it was I would bet it was within 50 lbs. Of that.

Re: My new 528 combo
I left the molding and window seal on mine I wanted to keep as much of the sleeper look as I could I used my windows to mark my lexan out with and in stall the lexan I jst slid it in just like the window and riveted through the rubber seal I also left the mirrows on as they help backing up in the pits and going down the track
this pic don't show the rivets as I had not put them in yet

Re: My new 528 combo
Did you leave the metal inner door in yours or not I have been debating about that myself? Could take it out and put aluminum in but is it really gonna save any weight? Short of taking a holesaw to the frame not sure how I could get more than maybe 120#'s out of it.

Re: My new 528 combo
trucks have a frame that can hold 1500 lbs. without a roof to help support it just load the shit out of the bed.

Actually they are considered midsized ;)but yeah they are heavy, atleast the newer ones. My 86 was 3100 full street trim with an iron headed 466 cast iron manifolds and exhaust all the way to the back bumper, the 98 and up are 6 inches wider though, although I thought the tubular a- arms aluminum rack and pinion and aluminum hood would offset that being as the earlier ones had heavy ass I- beams and a steering box.

Re: My new 528 combo
Eric the late model ranger frame is only 65lbs lighter than a full size truck frame the late model has alot stronger chassis and frame than the twin i-beam had. I think it from the tubed front back to the back of the cab frame plus the heavy crossmember they have under the front plus the heavy a-arms and a-frame under them

Re: My new 528 combo
This is a cool builld Eric. Of course I'm kinda partial to the truck stuff. I'd think if it's done in the right places, you can get that Ranger dieted down to well under 3000# with you in it. Before I changed the hood (again), my F150 weighed in at a mere 2840# without me in it, and it has 2 poly seats and full 5 point harnesses, 12 point cage, and the windows are all lexan... The only fiberglass in it is the hood scoop... If you want, I can send you pics of the things I did to it. It's all factory frame except where I cut it off at the firewall and swapped it out for a Foxbody front suspension. No lightening holes in the frame, just alot of other things removed...

Re: My new 528 combo
That would be great, I have been messing with the window stuff a little today to see what can be done. I am trying to avoid altering the firewall or floorpans as I would have to add a bunch of bars to the rollcage. If I can get away without touching them then to get my truck to certify to 25.5 should simply be a matter of adding a funny car cage over next winter.

Re: My new 528 combo
Been working on lightening it hoping to get some testing in a week from tomorrow. I received my new helmet SA2010 and SFI 3.2 pants yesterday, been needing a new helmet for quite awhile. I figured with this kinda power it was definitely time to upgrade.

Re: My new 528 combo
Eric, here are a few pics of what's left of my truck after making friends with my plasma cutter. I cut out everything that wasn't structurally important. All the sheetmetal got skinned. Hood bracing, doors gutted, and after cutting the center out of the doors and pullling the guts out in one piece, I just covered the hole with a HUGE B.F. Evans Ford decal... I skinned the roof, front fenders, box sides, bed floor, and front bed support wall. I took out all of the old dash, and replaced it with a hand built one I made out of an old steel wheel tub I had... I cut out all of the heavy factory frame crossmembers, and replaced them with 1-1/4" round tube. I got rid of all the heavy factory cab/body mounts and replaced them with 1/8" 2x2 angle, and made them solid... The Foxbody frontend took a little thought, but after it was finished, I ended up shedding over 100# off the nose. If you need any more let me know, and I'll get 'em to ya... I'm "hoping" to have mine back together and running before the end of this month...

Re: My new 528 combo
Thanks Doug, I built my cage around my dash when I was planning to keep it a ten second street truck but that plan is gone now and I have been looking at the dash real hard for some weight removal. I took a good amount of metal out of the crossmember already this week. The side windows and regs will be done this week as well.

Re: My new 528 combo
Yeah, I couldn't believe how much weight came out of my truck just by removing all the insignificant stuff... I'm gonna try and get it weighed again after changing my hood this year. It should be about 30# lighter than it was with the Pro Stock style hood it had on it. Which should put it around 2960'ish with me in it...
