What's she gonna run?
Well, my planned race is April 27th, that will be the true test. For now, I'd like to see what you guys think my f100 will run in the 1/4. Don't know the weight, hopefully dropping it down will have helped my barn door aerodynamics
Engine:
466 OEM crank, stock rods worked over, forged diamond -25cc dish pistons. probably 9:1 compression
D0VE-C heads, around 84cc chambers, 2.19/1.76 valves, 3 angle intake full radius exhaust, ports worked over real good
Weiand dual plane intake, Holley 4160 vac secondary 750.
Lunati hydraulic flat tappet, .554/.554, 230/230@.050, supposed to work well 1,800-6,200 or so. Wimpy ass little cam
Trans:
c6
12" 2,200-2,800 stall converter (probaby killing a bunch of power there)
Axle:
9", 4.10 gears, strange engineering locker, 30x13 M/T ET Streets
Any ideas? Anything I should change or work on? I already have learned so much since I started the engine build, and I really wish I did a lot of things different. Kicking myself in the @$$ real bad

Damn! Well I don't think she's THAT heavy, I can push it by myself without too much effort. Not much more effort than the cougar or maverick. But that is rolling weight. Curb weight from Ford says 3,600, I know it's gotta weigh more. Probably 4,000 or moreres0rli9 wrote:Dont know what the short cabs are but my old 76F100 cub cab was 6800 with a 390 in it.

I want to take it somewhere when its done done, and I have the bed floor redone with all sheetmetal. There are scales at the track but of course they are never open when I have a car thereres0rli9 wrote:Yes you'll be lighter, I got my wt.form the gravel scale's, never got to them after I put the 460 in.

Yeah right I used to think it'd be faster like that until I saw my buddy run his, but that's another story I have a feeling I'll be disappointed
Do you guys also have any horsepower estimates?

That is the times my 2002 lightning runs on street tires, your truck should do that if you have it right.

Wow really? How fixed up was it? One thing I have on my side is the torque, I built the engine for more torque and low end to get that thing moving. Like my machinist had told me "torque is what moves you", so I'm hoping that's true

My 1970 f100 weighs 4000 without me in it. IDT hit te nail on the head . Mine ran a 12.74 @ 106 . The first time I ran it . After working with it a few times my est time was a 11.73 @ 114 with a 1.68 60' time . Almost the same build as yours except I had Eddy alum. Heads 95 cc , and a 3.50 gear .

Did you have a build thread on here or fordification that I could look at? And how close is it to mine? Like cam, compression?
That's awesome! I know I should probably upgrade my carb at some point as well (just checking out yours in your avatar). You guys shouldn't get my hopes up, because then I'll come back on here with an update saying I ran 15.xx
My buddy's 68 longbed had a c6, 3,000 stall, 427 with a oem cam that had more duration than mine, 12:1 comp, 780 QF carb, timing locked out, 3.70 gears, ran 14.1 His was kinda slapped together though, and probably not tuned the best. His truck is what I was basing mine off of, thinking I'd run slower because how mine is built. But the 427 is also for high rpm, not the best for a truck

My cam was a Comp hyd flat tapper magnum 292H . Compression was 10.0/1 . I do have some pictures on the Proven Builds section

12.50-13.00 would be realistic man. Maybe even faster. I hope you don't get disappointed, you built this truck and that says something. Be proud of it. I think it a sweet looking ride, you nailed the stance and look! Good luck and have fun!---RED

Re: What's she gonna run?
Alright, so you have a little more duration tan me, some more compression and better heads. But yes, pretty similar
I hope faster! Everytime I start thinking about what I could have done better/different I have to remind myself what my goals were. I wanted a truck with great throttle response, big torque, lopey idle and I can run it on unleaded if I wanted to. It was supposed to be built so I can cruise around and have fun then go to the track once in a while, I wanted low end power without sacrificing top end. What I have to work on with the engine is the timing, and it has a hesitation. I haven't been able to really drive it to even begin tuning it though.

My 72 f100 short bed with 351w c6 3000 stall 3.50 gear went 9.40 1/8 mile on street tires . With out me in it was 3800lbs , so I think it will go 14.00 to 13.70 should be about a 9 flat or 8.70 1/8 mile. Good luck and have fun!

I'd say Whitefield will be closest. It'll surprise me if it breaks into the 13's...But I've been wrong before. Just hope it stays together and have fun whatever it runs! You got plenty of time to tune on it and improve it no matter where it runs!! Good luck

Re: What's she gonna run?
My 68 short bed had a 351 Windsor with a 2800 stall with a C6 and 3.70 gear and a 234-244 @ .050 cam .520 .544 lift went 9.06 1/8th mile. 3800 lb without me in it.
I put a 472 with c8 heads unported intake and ported exhaust ports, with a 230-230 .560 lift on a 109 sep hyd. cam, Stealth intake 1050 dommy with a 2 inch open spacer. 4000 lb without me in it.
It never went to the track , but it was a lot faster than my small block. I actually think it was probably faster than my lightning. My lightning runs 8.30's on street tires.........
The same engine went mid 7's 1/8th mile 93 mph in a 89 notch full interior and two battery's 2.73 gear and a stock six cylinder c-6 converter 3800 lb with driver 28x10.5 E.T. Streets. It barely got into second gear at the stripe.
I THINK YOUR UNDERESTIMATING YOUR RIDE BROTHER..........

Re: What's she gonna run?
Your 460 will make a good bit more torque than a Windsor. Torque will move that ol truck out of the gate better. Hopefully it'll run a good number for you Justin. I hope it surprises the crap out of you!

Didn't notice the 12 inch, that definitely won't help his program. What inch is a stock high stall c-6?
