Re: What's she gonna run?
Here's a video I put together, watch the corvette's distance as I do the 1-2 shift. That view was supposed to be for me to see what the tires/suspension did at launch.

Boy, when you get that thing to launch you're gonna hurt some feelings. (The guy in the 'Vette notwithstanding) And you're losing a TON of time with that awful shift. Trans and converter to the top of your "things to do" list?

The list in no exact order is
Shift kit (already purchased)
converter if I can pull this trans
traction bars or caltracs (still unsure)
driveshaft loop at some point
Carb at some point

You were out of the throttle as much as you were in it You get the stumble off the line and the no shifting from 1st to 2nd out of it she will be flying.

Justin,
Nice times for the first time out with the truck.I figured low 13's with tuning and you ran that first time out.I also ran a 10" TCI Street Fighter Converter in my LTDII.I used to drive it to the track 35-40 miles one way and it worked fine for me.
Later Mark.

Justin, before you spend the money for bars, try clamping the springs so they won't flex out. We did that on my brothers ole shortbed 68 and it worked great. And congrats on the truck, you did a GREAT job. Have fun brother.
ps... are you still going to school in nw ohio? My nephew will be going there after he graduates this spring. he's taking diesel mech.

Okay, so I shouldn't have an issue with the higher stall based on what you guys are telling me from experience
And how did you go about clamping them? With short U bolts? Yes I am still going to school, My scheduled graduation is in 2015.
Thanks for all the help and compliments guys!

How many do you think is needed to work efficiently? And could I pick something like that up at a hardware store?bbf-falcon wrote:Yes,short u bolts.
Ps: I found a transbrake for sale. That should help my launch I'm actually thinking about it too

Re: What's she gonna run?
I agree with Rick! That's an old mud racing trick when rules require stock springs. Clamp them together and they stiffen up the rear a ton.
Justin, I have one of Franks T brakes and a hand me down TCI street fighter converter in my truck. The converter will hold at 3800rpm on the Tbrake.
It's amazing how much the Tbrake will let the rpm's climb over footbraking.

I put some 64 3/4 ton springs in the rear on my 69 swb when I was running the 351c in it they stop the wheel hop and and made it grip and now when I load it people will look at it and wonder why it not dragging the bumper.I just tell them it a real truck when trucks was made out of something

Justin I clamped my springs for awhile before I had a transbrake. I just used half inch by one inch bar stock and drilled three eighths holes in them and then bolted them together with grade 8 bolts... made the truck ride rough as hell but does stiffen the front of the spring. I used two clamps per side. A looser converter will make the truck feel like it gained 50 hp off the line. Just have a good cooler. Fyi I had a b&m truck shifter and shift kit. I could never get the detents perfect always had a flare up between 2-3 shift... I finally bought the turbo action valvebody and shifter and the flare ups went away. Turbo action is the only shifter I know of that has a dedicated shift gate for the C6. Good luck and have fun.

Justin, are you running a C6 trans?
Re: What's she gonna run?
I didn't have the typical flare up on the 2-3 shift , I guess I can put my shift kit in and see what it will do. And yes this is a c6.

Re: What's she gonna run?
So here's the update, one step forward and two steps back
Shift kit fixed all shifting problems, shifts very quickly like a full manual valve body, NO FLARE UPS at all
But, it was dark out. My headlights kept shutting off for seconds at a time. Figured it out, the dimmer switch is faulty.
I started over heating, the circuit breaker kept kicking the fan off. So I wasn't getting any air flow, I'm getting a bigger one to match the relay, this one was what came in the kit.
Also, what just started happening is the lower radiator hose under even light throttle is pinching off and not allowing flow. So I have a few things to work out, but they aren't too bad and I know how to fix them. Glad it happened now and not later. Still kicking around the traction control options. Also keeping my eyes peeled for a carburetor.

Caltracs should be on this weekend I'll make a second gopro video to see how big of a difference they will have made with axle movement.61coon wrote:Bump for a start it up and do a burnout.....

I'd say it has payed for itself already Very handy for diagnosing things that are in motion like suspension.61coon wrote:Wow! That camera mounted there is a very useful tool. No denying what happening there.
