For what its worth...when I still had a 429 in mine (420 hp@the tire) it too was a dog on the bottom and ran mid 12s @ 4100 lbs.
it had a xr286r solid roller...victor intake and hp 950

My brother has a 65 f100, had a 466/c6 combo in it & it ran 11.60s, it ran 7.30 in the 1/8th but hit that wall of air on the top end. The motor had dished trw pistons, home ported doves, solid ft cam, tunnel ram w/2 660 carbs, about 4200 lbs.

Justin, if it doesn't spin a ton off the line I think mid 13's is realistic.
I started out running high 12's with my truck 4 years ago. With the help of the guys here over the last few years, it went 11.44 the last pass of last year.
Listen and learn my friend!!

Re: What's she gonna run?
Well after this race I can hopefully make some changes, I need to sell/trade some stuff to make it happen though. I'm broke, but what else would I spend my money on anyways? still on the search for a job, I have a bunch of good paying jobs offered to me up here, but absolutely nothing down at school where I need one I gotta get that cash flowing again big time. Then I can get this baby completed, minus the changes in the distant future

Re: What's she gonna run?
Pretty much just sitting around twiddling my thumbs now Waiting on my shocks and a roll bar kit before I can install my harness. This roll cage will take a bit of work to put in, it has to have different angles and what not than a regular kit. I've been fiddling around with a few things, like brake adjustment, tacked the exhaust up in place for now. It'll come off for the race and I will fully weld it while its out.
On a side note, what size carb do you think would be good for this? I have a buddy with an 850 dp, would that be good or should I get more? From what I hear the 950 flows the same.

Use his 850 and see how it does if it don't do the job then buy a 950

I've rode in your lightening and it is freaking fast for a pretty stock truck. It felt way faster then my 79 F159 460 truck. Of course mine didn't have a "Snake" tune.

Re: What's she gonna run?
Took her out for the first time, left a few 11's around town. I was only able to get up to 2,000 on the converter but I think the brakes aren't strong enough to hold it past that right now. This thing pulls harder than the maverick ever did, idles down fine whem I come to a stop. I have to pull my intake because it's leaky right now but I will be checking everything over. The only issue I seemed to have was the 1-2 shift. It didn't want to shift at wot, let off real quick and it shifts.

Re: What's she gonna run?
Are you shifting manually, or just putting it in Drive and letting the trans shift itself?

What kind of shift kit do you have and modulator valve ? also how do you have the modulator adjusted ?
X2 on running the 850 carb.
Whatever it runs have fun and don't be disapointed in it!
Also my son has an 02 Lightning with crower cams , ported blower 3000 ss converter upper and lower pulley's, Borla exhaust, dyno tuned, traction bars and 12" wide rims with M&H drag radials that are 390/40/17. . At 5000lbs with driver full tank of gas in the heat just went 7.97 1/8 mile and the year before that and before the ported blower at BG KY went 12.76 1/4 mile. Just something to think about , don't want you to be disapointed !

Re: What's she gonna run?
Well, I will be back Thursday night to finish things up. I have a 6 point roll bar going in, I have the 4 point part of it welded and setting in place. I want to hold off on the side bars because they seem too low for tech (I think). But anyways, I have to tighten the bolts and at some point weld the plates around the side. I have a sunburn from welding, that hasn't happened since my welding class I have to double check everything, and I mean just about everything. I changed my modulator valve to a green stripe, and have a shift kit to install but I think it'd be in my best interest to wait and avoid rushing it and doing it two, three times. I think I'll suffer from wheel hop until I get caltracs on it, I might be able to adjust my shocks tight to help that.
My friend backed out of the carburetor after I had sold some stuff and had the money. So I'll be looking still. Got b-day money and some of my tax return so I have a wee bit of money to spend, only enough to buy one thing probably. I really want to know what it'll run, like I said even with everything like the small carb, bad shifting, heavy truck, tight converter, ect. It pulls a lot harder than the maverick. Dad keeps saying how fast it was when he rode in it, I hope it impresses the hell out of me and makes me real proud to have built it. I'm real surprised with how loud it is with the low compression, about to pull the exhaust off for the race this Saturday and to fully weld it, it's gonna get loud! I will get some GoPro footage. Oh and something else, what pressure do you think I should put my tires at as a good starting point? M/T ET Streets, 315/60r15.

Re: What's she gonna run?
My truck liked 25psi best with the drag radials and foot braking. Now with the slicks and a Transbrake its a whole different story... lol good luck and most importantly have fun.... fwiw when I was foot braking my truck I didn't have anything fancy done with the suspension and it didn't hop...

Re: What's she gonna run?
Justin, Cody is right! Have fun!!
Last year I broke out at every race after I took out the transfercase. It got even worse after I swapped from the stealth intake to the victor.
2 years ago I always ran a 12.0 something in the 12,00 index class. Won 2 of 5 races and finished 2nd in points
Last year my slowest was 11.79 with 11.44 being my worst/best pass
Even though I lost every race, I had a blast.

Re: What's she gonna run?
See, it's fun either way, but I like being able to race more rounds because the fun lasts longer. I get to mess with the car and go through everything, which is why I love T&T racing. I can relax and me and my dad have time to tune everything and learn more.

Re: What's she gonna run?
Well, she surprised the hell outta me! Ran a 13.0 with no tuning, and not shifting worth crap. I didn't make it too far, but I don't care. It was a great day, I got the truck out there and it ran faster than I expected. After I put a shift kit in I will hit 12's easily, then even more once I get to tuning it. I would have hit 12's on my one run based on the faster 60 ft. but the guy next to me never left the line so I let off to play it safe.

Re: What's she gonna run?
Also, how much would I benefit from a caltrac or slapper bar setup being that I already hook? I have adjustability on the rear shocks both ways still, and the tires were at 25 psi. I didn't touch anything and left the tune how it was for the day.

Re: What's she gonna run?
Great job justin!
At your level id only be concerned about controlling wheel hop....if its not doin that i wouldnt waste you $$ on the caltracs. I ran cheapo traction bars down to about 11:40 on mine before it was time for a better setup.
