Good looking car. T5s are fine for a cruiser. If you abuse them though they won't last, kinda like a lot of stuff, like Rich says some people can break a steel ball with a plastic hammer.

I really like that car.

nice car. if the tranny bust and you are set on the t5 there are things that can be done to make them hold up. Also, looked at your cable clutch setup, looked good. not sure if you have the new cable but the one I got goes around the oil filter and clears my headers. how much do you lack with the hood. if you don't have some sort of limiter on engine movement you need to account for extra space between the cleaner and hood.

Re: new project! *progress*
I also had an 86'gt vert for 10 yrs, had a supercharged 306 in it with a world class t5 in it and never had any issues with trans on the street and also took it to track a few times. Just sold the car last spring and 2 weeks after he had it he took second gear out of it but I expect that he was speed shifting the car as I heard about how he was running the piss out of it all the time. It should work for ya.cool40 wrote:this one may have a short life in this car. i've owned a 86 gt for over 15 yrs with a world class t5 and had no problems with it.its been on the track a few times and had a lota street action,it even lived through a divorce!bigblok2000ranger wrote:dfree383 wrote:Cool Project. T5 should be fine with street tires, they are toughter than people give them credit for.
Not to argue but my old best friend had 91GT with a 302 with 1.73 roller rockers and a cat back kit and blew up 2 fresh rebuilt T-5's with world class upgrades then went to local Ford dealer and bought a brand new unit (also world class) the new one lasted 2 weeks and the car only had street tires.

Re: new project! *progress*
i got a 2"filter for it and that gave me a little room.it would shut with the 3"K&N but would'nt set down in the back at the cowl like it should, you know how you have to push the sides of the hood down after you shut it.lol.the cable setup is a steeda fox body kit i got from jegs.the cable runs behind the oil filter so i mounted it to the motor stand.it looks like it'll work ok,its no closer to the header than my fox anyway. more pics soon, its got some frontend on it now! O yea,the radiator is also very close to the hood, just not as close as it was before i shut the hood on it.mtacqua wrote:nice car. if the tranny bust and you are set on the t5 there are things that can be done to make them hold up. Re: new project! *progress*
thanks! i got a pic of the radiator too,it's not made like an original so it damn sure dont fit like one.lol. it's for this car but like some of the junk for these cars it takes a little "custom" work to use it.mtacqua wrote:looks very good.

I read that the rears are 17x9 .I just love the whole car. Traction bars are bitchin too man. I wish I could finish the body on mine. Its going black for sure now.
