Well guys, Nick does know what "sponging" a race horse is. It is illegal and was done back in the day, in order to make the odds on favorite, run a poor race and lose. The gamblers often had connections with some people of "bad character" in the stables. They would stuff sponges up a horse's nostrils the night before a race. Restrictor plate racing is a good analogy.

Re: cubic inch vs. "the budget"
Charlie, are the CNC ported A460s that TFS sells any good? How do they compare to the C head? As good as an out of the box C head with a good valve job? Slightly better or worse? Or does the C head just blow them away?

Out of the box C's are really not that good. The castings are made to be ported to customer spec's. Yes the ported A's will kick the pants off of unported C's.

Not all that suprising I guess. Really I'm just wondering how good the CNC job is from TFS, I'd bet the valve job is probably hit or miss on the out of the box heads based on past experience with their SBF stuff.

Good point Rob....and...at this point TFS has small port castings that they use for the cnc porting which would not perform well if ran as cast.

This has been a very educational thread, tonight I am going to sponge my wife while she is asleep. I may be able to catch her and actually have a sex life after that....

Their A head out flows their C head, also. They used a smaller valve in the C heads. I know a few people that have got 535+ with C heads.

nothing yet ..... i have a couple of other projects im working on ....
im thinking about leaving the eddies on there this go around and just changing the stroke/compression like Lem had suggested in a post.
same bore, 4.6 arm for 601 cubes raise the compression to say 14 - 14.5 by milling the head and changing the cam ...what rod will i need ?

i would go with the 4.5 deal but thats me , mainly for the ease of tuning with the small tire . did you ever get to mess with that digital 7 much ?

Don't mill the heads...you will have to buy new p.rods if you do and the extra swept volume of the larger cylinders will give you a nice bump in the comp. ratio anyway.
